Entry 5: Technical Research

TECHNICAL RESEARCH Game Mechanics -Button mashing -One-directional running with jumping and ducking -Obstacles that reduce speed if collide -Chaser (grim reaper) Technical Theories Button Mashing  >https://answers.unity.com/questions/881920/simple-2-button-mash-script.html - Adding an interval between two buttons to be able to press. - The buttons for mashing ranging from 5 buttons (YOUNG AGE) to 1 button (SENIOR AGE) to create difficulty and limits the mashing capability. - As level progresses, the impact of the button mashing will be lessen. Therefore, I need to create a float that contains the value of impact. Eg. 1000 velocity per press for YOUNG AGE, 500 velocity per press for COLLEGE LIFE and 250 velocity per press for SENIOR YEARS One-directional running with jumping and ducking >https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/BoxCollider-size.html - Add a velocity force minimum 40 for example to max 200. - Add force whenever mashin...

Entry 4: Visual Research

VISUAL RESEARCH Mood board The digital game will be a typographical environment in 3D rather than just flat 2D plane. The color I'm going for will be white-black and highlights will be gold to red to contrast with the background. Character Design The character, the protagonist, and grim reaper will be in 2D pixel sprites. For the protagonist, I want to still emphasize the typographical visuals by giving it a head for "ME" in word while maintaining a humanoid body. The protagonist will be in PRECIOUS GOLD color to represent the value of a life while the grim reaper will be in DEADLY RED. Running animation will be snappy instead of - - leisure looking running animation The character will mostly in this kind of pixel characters, thin and minimalist, but not too minimal as shown, above and bottom. But rather have more pixel counts to create the sense of some volume to the characters For the grim reaper, I want it to ride on a horse to show t...

Entry 2: Personal Statement

The entry requirements are most likely to be feasible for me the work with. The requirement did mention that the game must at least consist of the core gameplay, thus a demo game will do just fine. The judging criteria for this competition are quite broad therefore the winning rate for me would be higher than other competitions. The criteria I’ll be focusing on will be Visuals, Best Student Game or Nuovo Award, jurors who think differently about games as a medium, considered that I’m confident with it since I have a scope. Getting a credit in this competition would be quite an asset for my portfolio since many famous indie game developers joined this competition. Moreover, it will enhance my experience as a future game designer and might also identify my weakness during the development of my entry for this competition. Getting into this competition may help me to gain insights partially on how developing video games for commercial would feel like and the ethics of being an efficient ...
